Aortic arch interruption presenting with absence of all limb pulses.
Three patients with aortic arch anomalies presented with severe heart failure, acidaemia, and poor or absent upper and lower limb pulses. Prominent carotid arterial pulsations were detected which distinguished the condition clinically from aortic atresia. In 2 patients with a left aortic arch, interruption was distal to the left common carotid artery and there was an aberrant right subclavian. ...
متن کاملComplete interruption of aortic arch, without persistent ductus arteriosus, in an adult.
A case of complete interruption of the aortic arch in an adult is presented and the previous 8 reported cases are reviewed. Obliteration of the ductus is a feature of these cases, in contrast to the more common variety found in early childhood. Comments are made on the clinical distinction between the adult type of complete interruption of the aortic arch and coarctation of the aorta.
متن کاملDiscontinuity of the arch beyond the origin of the left subclavian artery in an adult: Interruption or coarctation?
Congenital aortic anomalies are uncommon causes of secondary hypertension and are seldom suspected in the adult age group. We present a case of aortic interruption unexpectedly diagnosed on autopsy in a 38-year-old male who presented with cardiovascular collapse. Apart from interruption, a finding unique to our case was aneurysmal dilation of the proximal descending aorta just before the obstru...
متن کاملA Rare Case of Pulmonary Atresia with Ventricular Septal Defect with a Right Sided Aortic Arch and a Calcified Pulmonary AVM Presenting in an Adult without Cyanosis
Pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect (PA-VSD) with pulmonary arterial supply arising from the aorta representing large MAPCAs associated with a right sided aortic arch is an uncommon anomaly. Most of the patients succumb to severe respiratory compromise or congestive cardiac failure very early. We report the clinical details and imaging findings of a case of PA-VSD with a right side...
متن کاملDilatation of the ductus arteriosus by prostaglandin E1 in aortic arch abnormalities.
Infants with aortic arch interruption of juxtaductal coarctation of the aorta may depend on patency of the ductus arteriosus to provide adequate lower body perfusion. In many such infants the ductus arteriosus constricts after birth, resulting in severe heart failure, poor systemic perfusion and acidemia. We infused prostaglandin E1 (PGE1) at a rate of 0.05--0.1 microgram/kg/min into seven infa...
